New York City nightlife used to mean hanging out in smoke-filled nightclubs at the edge of town and stumbling home as the sun came up. But, from what we hear, you can’t smoke in the clubs anymore (not that we’re really too upset about that), the real estate boom has squeezed a lot of them out of town, and there’s even been talk of more aggressively enforcing the city’s decades-old anti-nightclub statute. So, what’s a denizen of the night to do? Well, it looks like Apple’s come up with the answer. As previously rumored, the company’s new midtown store, which opens tomorrow, will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. The store, which has gotten a lot of buzz for its five-story, glass encased, Jobs-designed, cube-shaped entryway, will feature 4,000 square feet of retail space, most of it underground, and will be able to satisfy those musical and computing urges, day or night. Word is that the store will also be giving away one MacBook an hour to lucky visitors over the next couple of days (starting with tomorrow’s 6pm opening), so we expect some pretty sizable crowds to show up. Yo, Steve: Add a dance floor and teach your Geniuses to really tend bar, and we may just drop by one night and pick up one of those pods of yours.

World of Warcraft. Everybody is talking about it for a long time now. I heard of it too and I was reading couple of texts about it too but I never tried it out. I just was to busy with work and I also never really got the push to see why should I pay monthly for a Game. But then I went to Game with my girlfriend and I saw it there and was reading trough it. I didn’t know then when you buy it you get 1 month free trial time to test the game. Ok so we decided to buy it. Well after nearly 45minutes of installation of the 5 CD’s it was finished. One thing I heard is that lot of ppl have a 4 CD version. Is there any difference btw. those? Well then I started it, registered my account and logged in. Bang … I had to download a 360MB Update. Ok no problem but then I realised this thing is using bittorrent for sharing there updates but it went trought fast enough for me. With 2mbit it’s ok. After that we started it again and I created first a Nightelve/Hunter and I have to say “I am really impressed”. My girlfriend is not playing but she really enjoys to watch me and my Charactere groing up. She pushes me sometimes after work to play. So I am addicted to it too. I am not playing so many hours on it as some other. Mayb 2-4 hours a day after work sometimes I don’t play at all. But I have it not fo 1,5 week and I spent already at least 60hours with it. And I can’t get enough. I think it is really worth it’s money. The world is so big and nice, so many quests, so many people, so many monsters and so many time you can spend withit and you still won’t know everything about it. I think it’s just fantastic. One more thing at the end. I think the best part on that game for me is that it runs perfectly on my Powerbook.

This weekend I tried to get my old Neverwinter Nights PC version with both addons running on my Macintosh as I thought it might work so I don’t have to buy the game again. But I found out its more a money making thing that this doesn’t really work. Well my thoughts were all I need are the binaries to run NWN on my Mac.
That was wrong. Well I did a basic install of NWN on my Windows XP machine. Copied it over to the Mac. Then there is a nice tool called NWNUpdate on sourceforge which is a program that lets you install the Windows Version of the addons on your macintosh and also has an update option. So I copied the windows install over, run the program to install both addons but then stop. Whats the story with the keys it doesnt ask for them. No you have toedit the nwnkey file by yourself and have to add the keys manually. Ok no problem I have a backup of my old key file. Then I run the update option in the NWNUpdate program, after 20minutes of download the patch it told me an error and he couldn’t update. Well I downloaded the Patches manually and then …. TADA … nothing. All I could start was the Dedicated Server and there was not even text in all the boxes, they were just empty but when I tried to start the DM Client or the NWNClient it just crashed. Check the logs … nothing in it. Ok that’s funny because I got the binaries there. So I started looking in the forum about anything simular because there must be somebody out there that has tried that before. But all I found was that you need the NWN Mac Version because there are the binaries on it that are not in the patches (so they must be linked to something) and that it’s because the NWN Mac version is made by MacSoft and that they wouldn’t make any money if you could install NWN with the PC Version and that Bioware doesn’t support any exchange (what I understand because they just made the game and not the CD).
So my final conclusion is I got at least Diablo 2 running ( after installing OS9 Classic) and that I have to buy NWN for Mac. But I won’t because I have the game and I have also gentoo on my laptop and I might try to get it running on that then. But I won’t buy it again. Either I play on my old windows desktop or I try to get it work with gentoo.
