Sun Eco Sunday

September 14th, 2007

Today we had an in-house event at pixelpark. Sun was here with the Ecorider and had some interesting talks about powersafing, new hardware and other things. One of the most interesting parts for me was the presentation of the new Niagara-2 Processor which has 8 Cores with 8 threads which makes it an impressive 64 Threads per CPU. Also we have seen new information about the new Sun T2000 (with the new niagara-2), X4200 and the new X4500 with 24 Terabytes storage and more. We heard a lot about new powersafing technologies and also about there Ecorider tour which they did trough germany. I think it’s going to be a nice time when the niagara processor is coming. It has a big potential on the market and this amount of power is really wanted. It’s hard to tell you all what I heard at the event but I’ll see if I can get my hands on some of the pdf’s of the presentations or just go on sun.com and read the official information there cause I only can tell about what is already written on there site and not more. Also Thorleif Wiik made a talk about the new Sun Blade 6000 which we use in-house since a few days/weeks with 11 Sun Blade Server Modules X6250. Rolf Kersten held two talks about powersafing, the sun eco tour and there new niagara-2 processor.

    I think Niagara 2 is 8 cores and 8 threads per core = 64 threads per socket…
